MSI file properties

Postby ncgjka » Tue Apr 04, 2006 3:49 am

We recently switched from InstallShield to InstallAware for building our MSI files. We are very pleased with InstallAware, but I have one question though..

When building an MSI in InstallShield you get detail file properties (as a tooltip) such as Titel, Author, Subject where you can have software version in the title for example. In InstallAware these details are visible in the EXE fiel created from a Build, but they disspaear when I make an MSI package from it..

Is there any way to include this information in the MSI file??

Are you using the Group Policy Wizard to make the MSI? The "inner" MSI that is produced by InstallAware (ex: look at the MSI file in an uncompressed setup) contains those fields. I think the GPW MSI may lack them.

Yes, I use the GPW to make an MSI from the .EXE created by the Build. Why can't the MSI inherit the detailed properties from the .EXE since that file does have all the detail information? Would be a great feature to enable developers to quickly ensure the version of their products, i.e MSI files.
