Anyone have check*.mia and setup*.mia for java JRE?

Post by rbrodt »

Hi all,
I know there's a whitepaper on how to create new runtime requirements configurations out there somewhere, but I was wondering if anyone has already gone through the exercise of creating these files for a Java JRE (pref. Java 6) and can share with the rest of the group.
Thanks!

Did you check out the Java setup template? Just click the InstallAware button, its right there under the New section.

Very nice. Can I add this dependency to an existing IA project?

Should be able to, however, there are no pre-built script files :( You will need to copy the code manually.

OK..."should be able to"....hmmm

I think I'm missing some very basic knowledge here of what these scripts are supposed to look like. They seem very cryptic to me what with all the GUIDs sprinkled all over the place and special $ section separators and whatnot.

I read the whitepaper on extending runtimes but alas, am none the wiser. Is there other documentation I can refer to?

The VC++ check*.mia and setup*.mia make references to DLLs that I just happened to find in the Plug-Ins folder. Do I need to write a DLL that fires up the checking and setup-ing executables?

Keep in mind I only have the IA Express version which, in hindsight, appears very limited in functionality - should I have purchased the next level up?

rbrodt,

you should not use a text editor such as Notepad, UltraEdit to open a mia file. Only when the file opened in IA, you can see what code it contains.
