I have questions on two scenarios:
We've built a setup with features that user can optionally select. Feature A has 15 files.
A month later, we have modified one of those 15 files. We want to build a patch. So, as I understand it, the patch will detect the changed file, right?
What happens when a user that did NOT install Feature A runs the patch? Will the patch install the updated file anyway?
Then, let's say we need to add a 16th file to Feature A (registering it as a COM object, or putting it into the GAC, etc, etc). 1) Does the patch support this, or only support updating existing files? 2) Will the user that did NOT install Feature A get this 16th file when running the patch?
Thanks!

Everything will work as you expect it. If the user doesn't install Feature A the first time, the modified file will not be installed, as the file belongs to Feature A.
Similarly, if you add an extra file to Fetaure A, and the user did not install Feature A, then the patch won't install this extra file.
Similarly, if you add an extra file to Fetaure A, and the user did not install Feature A, then the patch won't install this extra file.
