.net 2.0 Media block won't load

Post by drizzo »

Hi,

I have .net 2.0 app that won't load the .net framework media block if it is missing from the target computer. I have looked through the forum as best I could and the only thing I could find was info stating that IIS doesn't recognize 7zip extension. One option is to change the extension to .zip I tried that with no success. I use an external ISP so I would rather not screw around with having them do something with MIME types if at all possible.

Web Media Block name is : Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and the url is Download URL is : http://www.dprtechnology.com/Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.zip (I also tried the initial default with the .7zip extension and it didn't work either)

So what is wrong with this. When I build the web deployment the files that are created in the ..\\release\\webfolder is always microsoft .net framework 2.0.7zip even though i renamed it in the Web Media Blocks section of InstallAware. I tried this using a local file path "C:\\.... and it worked fine, it's just loading the file from the internet that doesn't work. I've also checked and double checked the spelling but can't find anything wrong either.

PLEASE PLEASE HELP THIS IS DRIVING ME NUTS

Thanks
Dan

Web Media Blocks

Post by TMacy »

I resolved this in two ways...

1) I'm using ftp://... for my URL, as we could grab the .7zip files from our ftp site, but not from our www site.

2) I've selected *.7zip names that have no embedded spaces. For web media blocks that we create, this was easy. For the standard ones like .Net, I built once, then set them so they would not build each time (takes too long), and renamed them to simpler names... like DotNet2.0.7zip (and, of course, set the URL to the simpler name).

I wanted to try and stay with 7zip extensions because I got tired of renaming the .7zip files to .zip files afer every build, and because I didn't like having a .zip file on our system that really wasn't a .zip file.

Anyway... those two tings were how we addressed the same problem. HTH

Thanks for the reply. I finally got it to work no thanks to the installAware documentation which is poor at best. It turns out as you mentioned that the url couldn't contain spaces I also think that it's case sensitive as well. I think the web media block description is not very good. When I check off that my app uses .net framework 2 it adds an entry to the web media block section. As it turns out you can't rename this only the URL. If you rename the web media block then the Framework isn't built. This is very confusing. I also had my ISP help out with this. They told me to add a .htaccess file to my web site that would allow download of the .7zip files.
