Vista Logo certification

Post by Mateo »

We are working on getting our logo certification and we've run into a stumbling block with our installer. In step 16 for setting up a test machine the CertifiedforWindowsVistaProgramTestCases.doc says "Logon to machine as logouser1.
a. Install application selecting all components."

logouser1 is a standard user. My installer requires administrator privileges to install because I have to install a few fonts. Do I need to allow the program to install without admin privileges to get a Vista logo certification? I could probably do that and only install the fonts if I do have admin privileges but that would break parts of our app. Has anyone run into this before?

Hi Mateo,

Did you ever work this one out? I am interested in the answer, because I am in a very similar position.

Can anyone from IA answer this?

Best regards,

Sorry for the slow reply.

I asked a friend of mine that works at MS about it and he seemed to think that running the installer via the "Run as Administrator" option was a valid solution. That's not an official MS response but it made me happy to hear it from someone from MS. We have to our Vista cert soon so I'll post back here if it passes or fails.

Hey Mateo,

Thanks for the reply. Vista Certification is a puzzling thing.

So basically you have to log onto the machine as a standard user, but then run the installer as an Administration - right?

Sounds a bit weird - I'll do some research and see what I come up with also.

Best regards
