What is the proper way to use Remove Assemblies?

Post by Chris Miller »

If at uninstall time I want to remove any unpinned assemblies that my installer placed in the GAC, what is the preferred means? Do I just add the command immediately after "Apply Uninstall", or should I check the value of the SUCCESS variable before running the command?

Should I do this

Code: Select all

Apply Uninstall (get result into variable SUCCESS)
if Variable SUCCESS not Equals ERROR
if Variable SUCCESS not Equals CANCEL
      Remove Unpinned Assemblies
    end
  end
or is this enough?

Code: Select all

Apply Uninstall (get result into variable SUCCESS)
  Remove Unpinned Assemblies

Chris,

I would do it the first way, that way you will make sure the user did not cancel the uninstallation, and that there wasn't any error in the process.
