Installing service with name from variable?

Post by StyX »

Is it possible to install a service and taking the name from a Variable?

I've tried, but it doesn't seem to work for me (very possible that I'm doing something wrong : )

I have a similar question: can the service file field take a path with variable? or does the service entry point file just need file name rather than file path?

1. The service file field doe snot accept variables
2. The service file should be a file in your source files so use the browse button and let it use a complete path and filename.

But the Install Files command allows relative path and variable (such as #DEV_ENV#, even though it also claims no variable allowed. Why is Install Service command behave different from Install Files command?

This works OK:
Install Files ..\\..\\..\\..\\targets\\#BUILD_ENV#\\server\\myService\\*.* to $TARGETDIR$\\myService

But this gave me error complaining invalid path:
Install Service ..\\..\\..\\..\\targets\\#BUILD_ENV#\\server\\myService\\myService.exe to $TARGETDIR$\\myService

I can't answer why Install Files works and Service File does not, that is a question for IA. However, in our environment we use the refactor paths function to accomplish the same thing as you are trying to do with compiler variables.
