Patch build breaks $COMPANY$ variable

Post by daniel »

I'm using InstallAware 7.5.6001 to build both a full install and patch update for our latest application release. The full install is working as expected, but the patch installs files into the wrong directory. It turns out that the patch is using the 'product name' value for the $COMPANY$ variable (which is different in our scenario).

We use the $COMPANY$ variable many places our file, registry and shortcut paths- all of which are experiencing this same problem.

Has anyone else seen similar behavior? Any ideas what is causing this problem, or what can be done to fix it?

thanks in advance,
Dan

Daniel,

We were not able to recreate this. $COMPANY$ resolves to the right value in the patch. If you find a way to recreate it, please let us know so we can investigate further.

Hi Alejanrdo,

I have also created patches before, for this same product, where I did not have a problem with the $COMPANY$ variable. Something changed this time, or we hit some edge condition however, that is causing this strange behavior. I've studied the older and newer .MPR and .MIA files however, and I don't see any relevant changes that should cause this problem.

Do you have any suggestions for ways to debug/troubleshoot this further?

thank you,
Dan

Make sure you are not changing the publisher name field in the Add-Remove section of design mode.

Hi Alejandro,

We did not change the publisher or any of the other basic fields. However, we just discovered that the problems seems to only happen when using IA 7.5 R2 to patch an installer that was made with an older version of IA. Are the new releases of IA suppose to be backwards compatible for patching.

thank you,
Dan
