Dual boot Vista and XP - problem with COMMONFILES

Post by get101 »

My test PC has two hard disks. One has Windows XP, the other Windows Vista. When the PC starts, it asks me if I wish to boot Vista (the default) or the earlier version of Windows ie XP.

If I choose Vista (drive C), and then install my setup (created with IA), it finds Common Files on drive E: (where Windows XP is installed) instead of on the Vista drive!

I made a very simple script to test it, which contains this line:

Code: Select all

Edit INI File $TARGETDIR$\\test.ini, [one] thecf=$COMMONFILES$
The result is: thecf=E:\\Program Files\\Common FilesOTOH when I boot Windows XP, it correctly finds it on drive C:

thecf=C:\\Program Files\\Common FilesIs this a IA issue, or is there a setting I need to change?

These values are read from the Windows registry. Can you check your Vista registry to see if the correct value is stored there?

HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\CommonFilesDir

Please check the registry key Michael asked you to check. We have made the setup you described and everything worked right.
