Error: The instruction at xxx referenced memory at xxx.

Post by quintonmartin »

My last couple of install builds have been giving a strange error after clicking on the Finish button on the last dialog when the install is complete. No other errors occur during install and it appears the application was successfully installed.

I ran the install with the /l=install.log paramater and attached the log. I don't notice anything wrong, but it's not the easiest log file to interpret.

Anyone have a clue what might be causing this or how to fix it or where to look?
I do use some custom plugins that I wrote, could that be the problem? The error is occuring after they have executed, as I say, it happens after the finish dialog displays and you click on the button. I don't have any custom code in the finish dialog or the Finish Setup region.

Using InstallAware 7 R2 Web build

found/fixed problem

The cause of the problem was a Call DLL Function plug-in entry I had after the apply install. The DLL takes three parameters, all string pointers. For the third parameter, I was using a variable, but in moving some code in the install, that call DLL function line got placed before the set variable command. I moved the set variable command to before the call dll function command, and the error went away.

Posted the fix here in case someone else encounters the same problem.
