Crystal Reports Merge Module and .Net 2.0 ????'s

Postby nmarlowe » Tue Nov 15, 2005 1:53 pm

I am evaluating InstallAware Express edition to replace the InstallShield I currently use and just have a couple of questions.

First, when installing an application that uses the Crystal Reports built in to .Net 2003, one of the merge modules (Crystal_regwiz2003.msm) exposes a License Key property where I put my license key into so it can be installed on other computers. With InstallShield, I simply right-click on that merge module and add the required data. I have been unable to find how to accomplish this with InstallAware.

Secondly, will InstallAware include the redistributable for version 2.0 of the .Net framework. It appears as though Installshield is going to require that we purchase a new version, and if I'm going to spend money on it, I'd rather get something I like a little more :) .

Thanks in advance!

You can build .NET 2.0 installers with InstallAware today :D

About your question, please use Orca (a free MSI table editor available with the Platform SDK) to insert your license key directly into the MSM file before adding the file to InstallAware (if you already added it, re-add the file after saving the MSM file in Orca). Sorry about the inconvenience there :D
