InstallAware 8 - Prerequisite Issue with Command Line Builds

Post by Aaron Young »

After upgrading to InstallAware 8 we started to notice that the .NET Framework 2.0 was not getting installed.

After running some tests, I found that the problem occurs when a project is built using the command line builder (miabuild.exe)
When the installation starts it skips right over the prerequisites.
If you build the same project through the IDE it works fine and correctly checks and detects that the 2.0 Framework is not installed.

I even went back to a build from InstallAware 7 using the command line builder and it too worked fine, so this is definitely a problem in InstallAware 8.
I'm surprised noone else has run into it.

To replicate, create a new .NET Project (which will automatically include .NET 2.0) and build it using the command line builder.

We're at a critical release point, so I'm going to have to rollback to InstallAware 7, but a fix for InstallAware 8 would be much appreciated, a.s.a.p.

I created a default setup based on the .NET template, built from the GUI and command line, testing the command line both in the folder of miabuild.exe and the folder of the projects mpr file. The build was identical and each worked.

Unable to reproduce!

PS: Tested with both web and uncompressed builds.

Thanks for replying... That's very odd. We're in the middle of a release right now, but when that's done, I will do some more research.

Other variables:

I'm using Vista ultimate (the build machine uses XP Pro SP2)
I was doing a web build.
I ran the test of the command line builder using a batch file containing:

"C:\\Program Files\\InstallAware\\InstallAware 8\\miabuild.exe" "C:\\Users\\AaronY\\Documents\\My dotNET Setup\\My dotNET Setup.mpr" /o="C:\\Work" /b="2" /r PRODUCTVERSION=5.00.0000

I was previosuly using InstallAware 7R2 with the 7.9 update and I installed InstallAware 8 over the top.

Try to set the current directory to the miabuild.exe folder before invoking the build - shouldn't matter, but wouldn't hurt to try...

Thought I'd post an update on my latest round of testing for this issue.

It turned out to be a problem with the licensing.

When I first got version 8.0 the MyInstallAware link for the download hadn't been updated yet, so I just downloaded the demo and applied the licensing exe I had already downloaded for version 7R2 and it appeared to work just fine - I no longer got the demo prompts.

I just re-downloaded the license exe and applied it and now the behavior I was seeing has been corrected. (Interestingly the version on the license exe still says 7.0, not 8.0 and both versions are exactly the same size, so it's tought to differentiate.)

Regards,
