I have a question/request that may seem strange, but one that is very common in the companies that I am selling my product to.
I want to be able to automatically supply patches to my application, I know that you have the facility to look at a web location to check for updates, however now comes the strange request.
My clients want to be able to automatically update users computers with new updates, however they do not allow users to have access to the internet (which obviously makes your original solution not able to be used), they also want to control that a entire project uses the same version, and also with my application they sometimes have to update the database to allow the new version to work.
What I was wondering, is there a way that I could send my clients IT departments a new update, they then can put this somewhere on their network that then my application can check to see if there is an updated version and install it?
Or is there anyway that I can write some code either in the installer or in my application to achive this?
Thanks in advance
Simon
Install patches that are controlled by my client...
In Project Properties -> Monitor URL you can put a compiler variable.
You can then set the compiler variable to a path on a server at your customer. That way you have to create a custom setup for every customer.
And of course you need to distribute the new version including the updates.ini to the customer's server, and have a custom updates.ini with the correct path's for that customer.
You could also modify the updates.mia script to more closely fit your needs.
