After making copy install, it's asking for old product's msi

Post by cjoyce »

I had a working installer that simply copied files to the target folder, using a single exe. I copied the entire project folder, renamed the product, changed the Product Code and Revision Code and now when I run the install, I get prompted with the following:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

<Prompt>

Any ideas on what happened? I've copied the install once before and successfully created a working installer. I've searched the project file in a text editor and searched the installscript for references to the old msi but I can't find it.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the same problem - I'm doing an upgrade of a previous release and it uninstalls it fine, then prompts for the previous MSI with this message!

Thanks,
Andy.

Andy,

It has been a while so my memory is rusty but I believe I regenerated all of the GUIDs (Product Code, Revision Code, and Upgrades Product with Product Codes) and got past it. It is probably the Upgrade code matching the other installer which is causing the prompt for the msi. Make sure all of these three are unique from any other products.

Good luck,
Chris

upgrade code

I had the same problem, and the Upgrade code was the reason.
Product- and revision code are in the design view, but for the upgrade code you have to go to the MSICode view-> right click on the project-> Project Options. I found out about the third GUID by diffing the project files. And then searched for it in the GUI.
