Hey everyone,
First off, I am new to this forum so I just want to say hello!
I am seeing a very strange problem that I have not seen before and I'm wondering if maybe someone knows the remedy for this.
We use InstallAware 7 to build an installer for our web-based application. All of a sudden yesterday, I noticed that I could no longer install 2 or more instances of our application on a certain server. The following is what happens:
1. Successfully install the first instance of the application
2. Attempt to install another instance using the same executable
3. On 2nd attempt, installer goes straight to the uninstall screen and does not give any option to install or upgrade a new or old instance
When prompted with the uninstall screen, it does not give any indication which instance it is going to uninstall. When I actually run through the uninstall process, it will just tear out that first instance that was installed previously.
I did some digging in the Documents and Settings > All Users > Application Data directory and found that regardless of how many times I install\\uninstall the sites, it keeps creating the SAME EXACT GUID for the folder that all of the uninstall files live in. I'm almost positive this is why it is only allowing me to install one instance but I have no clue what would cause this or how to remedy it.
Isn't the creation of those GUID folders handled internally by Windows? I am looking through the InstallAware script and I am not seeing anywhere that the installer is setting that folder name\\location.
I'm almost positive that it's something wrong with the OS on the server as I am not able to reproduce this behavior on any other machine I try it on. We are using Windows Server 2003 SP2. Any help or insight into the cause of this would be highly appreciated as it is holding up the test process for a customer site! If I haven't been clear on anything and more clarification is needed to determine what is going on, please let me know.
Thanks everyone!!!
