Administrator privileges

Post by Stephen Ibbs »

Some users report problems with activex components not being registered on Vista machines. In these cases UAC has been ON.

In the Application requirements page in IA, should the checkbox 'Administrator privileges' be ticked or not ticked?

I don't know whether this ticking this checkbox means - install as though the user has administrator privileges, or whether it means - only install if the user DOES have administrator privileges.

Many thanks

Hi Stephen,

the 'Administrator privileges' checkbox inserts the following code into your setup script:

Get System Setting Administrator Rights into CHECKSYSTEM
if Variable CHECKSYSTEM not Equals TRUE
MessageBox: $TITLE$ Setup Error, This product requires at least Administrator Privileges.$NEWLINE$$NEWLINE$Setup cannot continue.
Terminate Installation
end

Elevation on Vista should happen automatically for Installation programs.

Thanks Richard for your reply.

The 3 components are DLLs, and I have tried ticking 'Self registering DLLS' and not ticking, but this seems to make no difference. Two of the users reported that if they right click on the setup, and choose Run as Administrator then it works correctly.

Otherwise they are having to use REGSVR32 to register the components manually.

I don't know what else I shouold do to get these to register automatically on Vista, with UAC turned on or off.

Thanks

Hi Stephen,

you could also try to use the RegisterLibrary command after ApplyInstall. Maybe that makes a difference...?
