Package Aware Problems

Post by ScottBM »

Hello again,

My company is debating on going with the studio or the admin version of your product and the "Package Aware" option only available with the admin version does not seem to be working properly for me.

1. I set up 2 clean computers with windows vista (32 and 64 bit)
2. Installed Install Aware Version 8. (Admin setup)
3. Did Initial scan of computer using package aware.
4. At hault screen, as informed by step by step guide I put the install files (not made by install aware) into the computers desktop and started the install process.
5. Upon Completion of the installation process, I removed the non install aware installation file and proceeded with the directions. (No restart required).
6. It then detected any "changes" and created an installation file for that.
7. It continued with the creating package process.
8. Upon completion of the package I verified and clicked on the "Build" (Shift + F9) function.
9. It haults in the build with error:
"Error during build: No files matching pattern "c:\\programdata\\microsoft\\search\\data\\applications\\windows\\mss00057.log"

What does this mean and why is it looking for a file that is not there? Did I miss a step?

Thanks

Apparently Vista's search indexer made some changes to the index during the capture. Just go ahead and remove that file reference.

PackageAware detects all changes on the target system and this sometimes includes background noise. You can work with the exclusion lists for the file system and registry to minimize this noise.

Now that you already have a project, reviewing the captured registry and file entries would also be a good idea.
