SourceSafe checkin.

Post by bokkie »

When IA projects are added to SourceSafe, is it enough to checkin only the .mpr file? In the sample projects I've created so far I notice all sorts of other files (.mia, . brk, .fld, some .dlls, .dfm, .miaf). I don't know if those other files should be added to SourceSafe as well?

I'm aware that I might end up with additional files if I create custom dialogs for example but I don't know for sure if those other files are created on demand if they don't exist or if they are subject to changes by IA once they've been created.

You should definitely add all files from your source project, unless they are backup files (BAK) or DLL files (DLL).

I just looked in the .mpr file for the first time. I can now appreciate that the other files are required. The .mpr file is very minimalistic. It also looks like the data lines have positional relevance? Having hacked my way through IS XML project files in the past where the files can be in excess of 700K, a 387 line IA .mpr file seems almost trivial. :)

Some versions of InstallShield for Windows Installer produced project files in excess of 20 MB LOL!

Most of your code is stored inside MIA files, that is where the script goes. Again, this is covered in the help file - each project file is explained there.

And yes, positional reference is accurate for all file types :)
