Copying or moving a project

Post by ingvarius »

What are the project files? What do they do?
I am having big time trouble doing something as simple as using one project as a template for another project.
I have invoked "Save Project As", deleted the old project and thought all was fine. Now InstallAware complains about missing mia.fld files. And - it is missing files having the path to the old, deleted project!

I am stuck..
How do I use one project as a template for another project, how can I save a certain project as another project and be sure that InstallAware understands this and maintains all project files?

I recall someone else had this problem not long ago but I can't find the thread as it times out searching for the keywords I entered.

You can copy the project folder to another name and use it. You'd want to rename the project and change the internal title etc but that should get you up and running.

As for the files the .dfm extensions are the dialog forms.

I'm not sure about the .dfm.miaf files. Mine are all empty for some reason.

Ok, but currently I have a project asking for files that do not exist. Not files to be installed, bur files belonging the InstallAware itself.
I do not understand why it does not maintain its own files, and save all project files again when I invoke the Save As command. This is the purpose of Save As, and has always been since the dawn of the PC.

Question is - what am I doing wrong?

bookie,

it helped a lot.
This behaviour of InstallAware is not intuitive in any way. Those who made this application, the folks at InstallAware, they find this great, I am sure. On the other hand, I do belive a lot of their customers think different about this.
Count me in..

I can appreciate your concern. Perhaps we'll see a different implementation in the next version whenever that's due.

the .dfm.miaf files contain the object rules for the dialogs
