How do I define What Goes Into Minimum Setup

Postby eddy2099 » Thu Nov 24, 2005 4:48 am

I am currently building an installer as a Compressed Web Based EXE. What I need is this, only the files needed for the minimum setup be included in the installer and the optional modules as Web Blocks.

Currently, I defined two Features, one I call 'Basic Installation' and the other as 'Optional files'. In Files, I added all the necessary files under the Basic Installation and marked them 'Vital'. The files for the Optional Files Features have the vital properties unchecked.

When I run the installation and select 'Minimum Setup', it stills install both blocks. How do I go about defining what is Minimum Setup in this case ?

Thanks.

You need to swap to the script view, and insert code that deselects features when the Minimum setup option is chosen in the user interface using the Set Component State command.

You also need to use the script view to create an offline web media block that includes your always-included files in your main setup using the Web Media Block command.

Please press F1 when the command editor for each of the above commands is showing for more instructions on using each command. Please post here if you need more assistance!

Sinan,

Thanks for the suggestion but I am using the Installaware Express and I do not have the Script View. Does that mean that I cannot allow my customers to install the minimum setup ?

Oh with Express, the first feature you create will be installed always, and the other features will be excluded in minimum setups.

However you will not be able to customize the web media blocks...if you want, attach the .mia file in your project here, I will customize it for you :)

That's what I did. I had the main files set up as the first feature and the second feature contains the optional files. Yet during the minimum setup, both blocks are being installed.

Now I am running into a weird problem, after I changed the Template to Swoosh, it tells me that a Plug-in is missing but runs it. When I tried to open up the project in IA SE, I cannot do so because it tells me that the Windows Installer is not found on my system. I guess I need to repair the installation and see if that fixes it.

Maybe I don't understand the concept but it is taking me too long to get an installation done up right.

If it says Windows Installer is not found, something must have damaged your registry, or removed the files, that are required by the Windows Installer plug-in in InstallAware. I don't think this is the sort of thing that could spontaneously happen - definitely unrelated to the Swoosh theme change.

I am sorry if you are having a hard time. I have already offered to take a look at your MIA file for you (the setup script). If you are not completely satisfied, please feel free to contact Xtras for a refund.

Sorry for the delay. I had to reinstall IA. Now the Swoosh is working.

But I cannot get the vital files in the off-line installation and the optional ones in the web block. I am sending you an email regards to my MIA file.

Got your email. A tip for the future: just attach you files here using Browse (provided they aren't confidential, of course).

I was working with real files and thought it would not be right to post what I was doing in a public forum. ;)
