I hope someone can help me. I am a licensed user of InstallAware Studio v8 and I cannot get Web Updates to work. I have downloaded the "To Publish Web Updates" PDF file and have it read it so many times I almost have it memorized. I have completed every step, one-by-one, with my own application and it doesn't do anything...even when there is a new update.
I have checked and double-checked the locations of the files, the format of the updates.ini file, and I have even recompiled my application thinking that the application version number (not the InstallAware product version number) was not matching the InstallAware product version number. I have tried everything I can think of but to no avail. I have tried the Web Updates with both Scheduled updates as well as Manual updates. Still "no-go". (Note: I have re-logged on and scheduled the updates and I can see the cursor change to an "hourglass" when the correct time comes around. Obviously it has tried to run the update but again...nothing happens.) Same with a manual update. The hourglass comes up for a second or two and then, nothing.
If I cannot get this to work I may have to try some other installation system, which I prefer not to do as I like many of the InstallAware options not found in other systems, as well as the fact that I already have a lot of money invested in InstallAware since version 7.
Can anyone tell me what could be happening?
Thanks in advance...

Thanks to a 2008 post by Mike Nesmith (see below), I got Web Updates to work...finally.

You need to add INI as a permitted mime type. Or, just change the URL in your project to something else than INI, and upload the INI file to that exact location - it will work. You're not stuck with INI file extensions (or 7zip for weblocks) - you can use whatever extension you like, as long as you correctly enter the URLs. IIS can be a pain to get to serve these extensions sometimes. "
My problem arose with mime types in an IIS host. As soon as I added INI files, it was able to run it.
Whew...I thought I had lost my mind. Even though I had done a search for Web Updates before posting, I never received/saw that one response from Mike.
Thankfully, the answer was still in this forum. Thanks IA.
