Error 2343 when trying to create shortcuts in $QUICKLAUNCHDI

Post by cheesetarmac »

Hi

I've run into a really odd issue with a user. Basically the installer fails with the 2343 error (specified path is empty) when trying to install a shortcut to the the $QUICKLAUNCHDIR$. The customer is running vista. The paths exist and the privileges to the folders appear to be ok. The log simply turns up something like this

MSI (s) (5C:04) [14:44:33:983]: Executing op: FolderCreate(,Foreign=0,)
MSI (s) (5C:04) [14:44:33:983]: Note: 1: 2343
MSI (s) (5C:04) [14:44:33:983]: Note: 1: 2205 2: 3: Error
MSI (s) (5C:04) [14:44:33:983]: Note: 1: 2228 2: 3: Error 4: SELECT `Message` FROM `Error` WHERE `Error` = 2343
DEBUG: Error 2343: Specified path is empty.
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2343. The arguments are: , ,

The installer works fine on test pc's.

Does anyone have any clue as to why this might be happening?

One of your path variables is empty on the target computer. You can use message boxes to print them out and identify which is empty on the target machine.

Hi

Thanks Michael. That's the odd thing though, the installer works fine on all other PC's. It's as if the evaluation of $QUICKLAUNCHDIR$ on the users pc results in an empty string. How does IA evaluate $QUICKLAUNCHDIR$ internally?

That is proprietary information, but it would appear that the path is undefined on your problem system. So just ensure its defined before using it!

Hi

Makes good sense! I had just found it odd I suppose because I thought that it was wont of the system paths in a sense but thinking about it more I guess it's not.

Thanks for your input.
