Hello:
I am not a Mac user so bare with me as I try to describe the issue:
I have a Health Practitioner software package that I'm using InstallAware (8.0) to install on Windows XP/Vista systems. It has a Firebird database installed as well. There is nothing particularly fancy about the installation.
There are some users who insist on running it on a Mac with Vista loaded using Parallels 4.0. They have successfully loaded other Windows programs, but when installing using InstallAware, instead of using the assigned file directory (in the Users\\<logged> area), the Installer/Mac wants to use what I believe is a virtualized disc space called "Home (.psf) Z:". They are running the installer using an Admin login.
In InstallAware, I use the screen/form which shows the directory that the program will be installed to and it looks like I could at that point change the file locations, but why is the installer location changed from my settings? Is there something happening here that I can change thus forcing it to install on the HDD to my directed locations and not to this virtualized disc?
Thanks,
Chuck Belanger
Using InstallAware on a Mac with Vista running in Parallels
After some Parallels and BootCamp googling, and learning what the two are, I searched on VMWare in IA and found the setting I was looking for.
In Design, Application Requirements at the bottom of the page is a check box to exclude/include the ability to install on virtual machines. For whatever reason the box was checked which meant it would NOT install on such a system. I'm assuming that IA saw Parallels as a VMWare-like environment and acted accordingly.
I've posted the installer for my users and I'm waiting to hear if it installed properly.
Of course, there is the other issue: Will my resource heavy app work properly in a Parallels v.s. Bootcamp, which actually boots into Windows, natively?
