How do I remove the change button

Post by shomw »

Our application does not have anything that can be changed so how do I set the install that only the remove button should be visible in the add/remove applet in the control panel?

Add an Integer registry value called NoModify and set its value to 1:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\$TITLE$

This works great for Windows 32 bit, but does not seem to work for Windows 2003 64-bit.

Is there a different registry key to remove the "Change" button from Windows 2003 64-bit?

Thanks!

Hi, [email protected]!

I suppose you need to switch the Installation Mode to 64 bit, by using "Set 64 Bit Mode" command. You can see an example inside one of the 64 bit prerequisites that shipped with IA. You can do this before the registry modification and then turn the mode back to 32 bit if needed.

Hope that helps.

Hmm ... I tried that with no affect. I even manually added those registry items after installing and still cant seem to remove the Change button. Perhaps there are different registry keys for 64-bit?

Did you try both with and without it?

Weird ... in 32 bit mode it does seem to work (I can remove the change button).

It looks like in that mode that it creates
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\My_App_Name\\NoModify = 1

Just for fun I installed again in 64 bit mode, noticed that there was an entry in the Wow6432Node registry, and I manually added using regedit.exe the NoModify DWORD. That DID remove the Change button!

Is there just a bug in 64-bit windows that ignores the 64-bit registry setting for the NoModify? Can I manually set the Wow6432Node entry in 64-bit mode to turn this setting off?

Thanks!
