Auto update failing under Vista

We have version 8 Admin studio.
Here is a scenario:
1) User installs 7.0.332.0
2) Schedules to get an update notification
3) Gets it and installs 7.0.335.0
4) Uninstalls 7.0.335.0
5) Installs 7.0.332.0
6) Schedules to get an update notification, but
7) the notification is never given.

Happens under Vista or Xp. Could this perhaps be a consequence of some temporary files being left behind by uninstall?

Check the C:\\ProgramData\\{guid}\\installedupdates file. Update script writes to it after a successful update.
