InstallAware Documentation

Post by DanStutzman »

I am new to InstallAware and am having some bugs from this being a new product. Besides the website, is there any documentation, thorough documentation, for IA?

I have read over everything that is out thus far and while I understand the basics, I still have alot of questions, like how to create a debug build or why I keep running into the Error Network location error I'm recieving.

I have books upon books for InstallShield, but a couple of relatively small printouts for IA that really only touch upon the basics. And while the Help files are ok, they are still really lacking.

Keep in mind that the two licenses I purchased for IA SA pale in volume to our corporate license count for InstallShield which is over 50. This is a pilot for IA and will determine what we do as a corporation when our IS maint. agreements expire later this year and our developers are not going to accept the "you'll figure it out approach" that is being implied by the lack of technical documentation for IA.

I post this because I know many InstallAware employees read this and I'm looking for real assitance.

Did you read all our whitepapers and other technical documentation, in addition to the help file?

We also have a new CoffeeCup series which provides lots of information that you can read while having a cup of coffee!

Do you have a link Michael? I have some print outs and yes I have read through everything. I really like the product and I'm trying to do my best to figure it out. But the Error I mentioned in a previous post still frustrates me to no end.

All I did was import a fairly simple MSI using the MSI Import Wizard and then add one folder to the two user profile folders. I have read the entire MSICode section and there is nothing that would indicate that it would fail. I have a feeling it is something incredibly simple that will result in an ah hah moment.
