Disabling Add/Remove Entry from Installation

Post by DanStutzman »

I am looking at the possibility of using IA to distribute applications akin to Package4theWeb or WinZIP because of the extremely positive results I have received thus far with compression. This would be used in conjuction with the custom dialog's I have created.

Is there anyway to disable ARP entries via the MSICode?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

If you are looking at using InstallAware just as a compressor, it might be interesting for you to evaluate Setup Squeezer.

Other than that, be sure to use the Setup Decompressor (which ships as part of InstallAware and is not a separate product, unlike Setup Squeezer). And then you can just call Delete Registry on ARP entries that were created. Or use the File Bag mechanism and do some runtime shuffling of files.

Mike,

I was looking at Setup Squeezer when I purchased my IA licenses but ended up running out of money (FY10 is right around the corner).

I want the ability create customize extractions, usually BAT or AutoIt controlled compiled as EXE's. Will SS allow me to do that & which version should I buy... MSI or IS?

Oh btw, bad build was my issue with IA (previous post). I rebuilt my environ and it removed the error invalid path errors and resolved the build times.

Glad to hear your build environment issues are resolved!

As for InstallAware vs. Setup Squeezer, you don't want to go the Setup Squeezer route based on your description.

If your company would like to license InstallAware's 7zip wrapper libraries, be sure to drop sales an email - actually it sounds like that would be your ideal choice here.
