Stupid Question of the week
I need to know the list of the predefined folders & their relative paths for IA. I've looked through F1, I've googled, and I haven't found it just yet.
If anybody could help me out that would be fantastic.

From the help file:
Defining System Folders
A collection of pre-defined system folders will always be available on the remote system. The IDE displays the most frequently used folders, but you may want to display additional system folders when they are required:
1. Right click an element in the Target Folders view.
2. Choose Add System Folder.
3. In the Display System Folder dialog box, select the pre-defined system folder you wish to add, then click OK to apply your changes.
The folder is added as a top level element to the Target Folders view using an abbreviated name.
Their relative location would vary from which version of windows you're on and the settings for that system. Most names are fairly descriptive in the dropdown list so you'll probably be able to understand which folder they're aimed at.

Thanks for the reply Styx but I was hoping there was a list already done up. I'm putting together training documentation and I didn't necessarily have to go the long route of creating a new custom project, injecting files into each folder and then installing to see where they end up.
I'm gonna work on out this week and when it's done, I'll post it here. I remember doing this a couple of years ago with IS 7 and it actually came in really useful when needing to reference a non-common path along with training new hires.
Plus it will be nice for all the dev's like me who haven't worked with Vista yet because of corporate decisions to skip Vista in lieu of Win7. That way when we start the package certification process for Win7, we can get a good idea of what will work and what won't.

Variable Folder
By the way... how can I set the files of my component to be copied to a custom variable folder? Say, $MYDIR$ in place of $TARGETDIR$?
Any advices on that?
Thanks in advance.

I'm still having problems with "variable folders" in my project. As you can see in the attached project, I set up a variable folder ($PCF_FILESERVER$) and used it in the path property of some of the components. One of them is supposed to create a new key (named "SERVER") in an INI file installed in a remote folder by a previous component in the setup sequence (Edit INI File $PCF_FILESERVER$\\PCFACTORY\\Compbin\\PCF_Config.ini, [CONECTDB] SERVER=$PCF_DBSERVER$). Everything is building and running normally, but the setup is finishing without setting the SERVER key in my INI file.
Is this some IA limitation or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance.

It's after Apply Install. InstallAware 101: Purple commands (which are direct Windows Installer table emitting commands) have no effect until Apply Install is called. Think of it as the printer spooling data and printing only when an Apply Changes executes.

Hmmm... OK, now I understand that purple commands are Windows Installer commands which have to be called before the ApplyInstall statement...
So, as you can see in the attached project, I have cut the command block and pasted it in a place above the ApplyInstall statement. Saved my project, built it and run it, but my INI key is still blank and unset.
Does IA provide any other alternative or is there any other mistake in my code?
