Difficulty using Install Service command with an Account

Post by albel »

Hi,

I am having difficulty in using one option in the Install Service command. The Install Service command runs very well until I want to have the Service that is installed run using an account - the service must have access to certain shared directories. The account exists on the machine and I can log in using that account.

During installation after the Apply Install command runs, the SUCCESS variable contains "Error" and the LASTERROR variable contains "Fatal error during installation.". I tried having the service installed as starting manually or automatically with no difference in failure. I have also tried using variables or hard-coded values for the Account Name and Account Password fields, but it fails using either mode. The install involves no dependencies on other services or groups.

Are there any suggestions?
Are there any other variables or logs that will elaborate on the LASTERROR variable mentioned above? (nothing useful appears in the Event Logs)

Thanks in advance,

albel

Can you log the installation and see what the log file contains? setup.exe /l=c:\\path\\to\\logfile.txt

Hi,

This is an installer made with IA 9. I have activated the logging and included the segment from the log that contains where the problem is reported. I don't understand the meaning of the error note because I am running the installation as the local Administrator (Windows 2003 Server, SP2), permissions should not be a factor. The Administrator actually created the account (ScerisEformsService) that the Install Service command is trying to associate with the service.
I could send the log if you like, it is about 350K.

Hi Michael,

This particular issue is not a problem, it's user error. I did not qualify the account name when entering it - it needs the domain no matter where the account is based.

Just a suggestion - the documentation for the Install Service command could state this fact explicitly in the Account section.

Thanks,
