Web Media Block (weblock) download has failed

Post by JeffryPaul »

I am receiving "retry weblock download" error. What am I doing wrong?

Here's my setup:
1. I have two projects that use the same script, same source files, same logic. Each project has different values for compiler variables.
2. The script uses compiler variables to turn certain features on/off depending on which project I'm compiling.
3. Both projects create web media blocks with identical names and identical contents.
4. I'm using Installaware Studio version 9.

From what I've read in the forums, as long as the weblocks use the same source folders, no problem, but not so in this case.

The weblocks from one project cannot work with the other. Opening the 7zip files I see a folder with the name of the weblock, then within that a numeric folder name, then within that the files. I'm assuming the numeric folder name has something to do with the MSI database. The numeric folder name is different for each project, despite the source files being identical.

What am I doing wrong? How can I get around this?

You can reuse web media blocks even if their contents are not the same - meaning one is a superset of the other. That will work well too.

In your case, I'd recommend double checking your MSI compiler optimization settings - make sure critical ID's remain stable between builds in both projects that create the web media blocks.

Figured it out. My mistake. Wasn't the compiler settings.

For each of the weblocks I have three locations for the 7zip file: $exedir$, $gpopath$, and a URL. During a copy/paste error I forgot to change the 7zip filenames to match the weblock name.

Doh!
