Post by pointeman »

I have this problem with InstallAware 7 & 9 where the following Web-block name fails duing install:

Microsoft SQL Server Express 2008 with Service Pack 1

Now the downloads work fine if I shorting the name to:

MsSqlSvrExr2008wSp1

I don't get it....

Is it something with your server maybe?

Are you saying I'm the only person with this issue?

I've been experiencing this issue since InstallAware 7 and IIS6, but still have not recieved an answer.

I'm currently using Windows 2008 Server (IIS7). I created a Virtual Directory named 'media' which points to a harddrive folder. I cut-n-paste all the .7zip files created by InstallAware Web Deploy build.

I added a new 'MIME Type' (.7zip, applicatin/x-zip-compressed) in order to download any .7zip files.

I can download the files manually without problem (www.mycompany.com/media).

1. I have directory browsing enabled.
2. Permissions are wide open

I don't get it...

Okay, here's a new but fixable error when trying to manually download:

microsoft sql server express 2008 with service pack 1.7zip

Error: An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource 'http://ps.pointesoft.com:8080/media/microsoft%20...

I can understand why IE7 would error on 'space''2008'.. It reads this as %20, so anyway I'll rename 2008 and see if it still errors in InstallAware too.

You might have better luck getting answers to these questions at an IIS support forum.

Hi Pointeman,
I encountered the same problem way back when I started on version 5 or 6. Since that point in time I have always renamed my web media blocks to contain no capitalisation, spaces or punctuation. So for example:
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1.7ip
would become:
microsoft_windows_installer_3_1.7zip

Also, make sure that your Download URL follows the same rules. For example:
'http://www.mycompany.com/download/updat ... r_3_1.7zip'
This should make your path and file naming compatible with both Unix and Windows web servers

Hope this helps

I also had a similar problem with this but it was caused by casing.

My blocks were named such as:

Add1
Add2
Add3

The URL used on them was http://www.mysite.com/Add1.7z
Same with Add2 and Add3

However, the output blocks were all in lower case:
add1.7z
add2.7z
add3.7z

I uploaded the files and could not get them to download from the installer which was pointing to the right url, just was not the exact case used. Giving my installer the error, but I was still able to type it in any case in my web browser and it would download.

I just changed the output files to the same casing as the url on the block and it fixed the problem without having to make another build.

Hope that helps =)
