Easter Egg inside installers made by InstallAware Studio

Post by ALive »

Hello!

I have a request to R&D to remove "Easter Egg" from InstallAware. Our test team have found this, as this was found by our customers and they don't like it. Maybe it was someone's joke.

The screenshots are applied.

To reproduce this, just click on the top left corner of the window to show context menu, then "About InstallAware Wizard". After that you'll see the MessageBox that has a text on the bottom about "Ozgecan Turna". After clicking OK you can see another MessageBox with a picture and some text (i presume a poem on Turkish).

With all our respect to Ozgecan Turna, I suppose this shouldn't be inside the licensed version of the product (I wouldn't mind if it stay on Trial version). My boss suppose that this is not acceptable inside commercial products.

Thanks in advance!

Moreover, if you close the MessageBox with the picture and then click Next (being on the first window of installer) and then click Back you'll have a runtime exception and the installer crash.

I hope for a quick fix from IA.

Thank you.

This is not an easter egg - it is a dedication of the product you are using. If you have a problem with this, I'm afraid you will need to use another installer.

Please note that there are no problems with the easter egg implementation either. It has been tested very well and is very robust. Anybody can try the steps you have outlined and no crash will occur.

I cannot believe anybody would have any problems with a heartfelt dedication like this.

Agreed! Consider her your "product sponsor" for getting a better product than InstallShield for a far cheaper price if that helps you accept the dedication.

I can see that Ozgecan Turna means much for IA team. I just found some materials using Google about this girl. I can't read Turkish, but as i see it was some accident. I'm sorry about this.

I would be thankful if you could fix the bug when opening this window. This one can be easily to reproduce.

I've just created a Simple Setup Project. Compile as a Web Deploy. Run the installer. Being on the first step, open the Ozgecan window. Close it. Then click Next on the first installer window and procedd to the second installer window step, then click Back to the first window, and the error occur.
Screenshot applied.

That does reproduce...a very strange error. R&D should have a hotfix for it soon.

Thank you very much for your compassion :)

R&D has fixed this problem - but they were working on a few other minor enhancements for the next rollup. Would you like to wait for them as well, or would you prefer an instant update?

The last thing anybody here wants is for this to inconvenience anybody, so let us know and we'll take care of it either way.

Michael, thank you for the reply!

I think we can wait for your next official (schedule) release.
There's also a difficulty to upgrade automated build machines each time new release arrive. So if the new release will arrive in a week for example we can wait that's for sure.

Thanks again!

R&D felt it best to post a fix live right away. Enjoy. You may just regenerate and reinstall your license to update - no other changes in full product.

Michael, i can see that 9.05 is live.
Do we need to download 9.05, or regenerating the license would be enough??

Can you provide the community with the fixed bug list. That would be very great.

Thanks!
