Using Copy Local files to copy/install Sub Folders

Post by asparagusx »

Hello

I want to allow our dealers to provide their users with some custom files that need to be installed. I want them to place 'extra' files that need installing in a folder called Extras on the installation media. I am using Copy Local files and that works fine, but I also need to allow copying of sub folders created in the 'Extras' folder. This does not seem to work - how can achieve this functionality.

I previously used Wise and I used the following script to allow that :

Code: Select all

item: Check if File/Dir Exists
  Pathname=%INST%\\Extras
  Flags=00000100
end
item: Copy Local File
  Source=%INST%\\extras\\*.*
  Destination=%MAINDIR%
  Description=Extra Local Files
  Flags=0000000111000010
end
item: End Block
end
This option allowed 'sub folders' as a check box to be specified.

Thanks

Anton

Unfortunately, the Windows Installer Copy/Move Local Files action does not allow for subfolders to be copied. This is an MSI limitation and since InstallAware is MSI-bound, it has to honor this restriction.

It is a shame, but I am now using Extract 7Zip Archive (which does support sub folders). Can you confirm that either .7z and .7zip file extensions will be valid for the Extract 7Zip function?

The file extension is immaterial - it can be anything you like, as long as the file is actually a 7zip archive with stored or LZMA compression, extraction will proceed normally.
