Windows 7 error \"Invalid floating point operation.\"

Post by d.sha »

Hi all,

one of our beta testers gets the following error on Windows 7 64-bit when starting one of our installers. we have no such reports on any other Windows versions.

"Runtime error in install: Invalid floating point operation."

this does not happen with all installer builds but is reproducible with a given problematic version. the error occurs right after "The InstallAware Wizard is verifying the contents of this setup package."

so we suspect that neither IA custom code nor MSI code is already running. installers are built with IA 8.0.

has anybody else seen this? any ideas what might cause this?

best,
Markus

You should log the setup to see exactly where the failure is occurring during initialization.

okay, we will try logging next although I would be surprised to get anything in the log. seems like the logging only starts once the MSI install is running and from what I can see the inner installer does not even start up properly.

If you look at any InstallAware log, you will see that there are lines logging the engine boot progress.

Hi!

Just in case. Today our Test team have successfully tested our installer on Windows 7 x64 OS. We use the final version. Try to use 9.06 at least in Trial Mode (if you don't have the license for 9.xx versions)

Hope this helps!

thanks, guys! I see what you mean with the boot process logging now. guess I ignored that part before because the tags looked empty ;-)

good tip also with the trial version.
