Changing \"<product name>\" in Group Policy MSI

Post by jsmith »

When I hover my mouse cursor over an MSI package created using the Group Policy Wizard, I see the following:
This installer database contains the logic and data required to install <product name>.
I did specify the display name and display version when calling pgplwiz.exe, thusly:

Code: Select all

pgplwiz.exe "C:\\path\\to\\MyInstaller.exe" " " "C:\\path\\to\\GPInstaller.msi" "My Display Name" "4.0"
The only parameter I left out was the second one that specifies the command line params to pass to the .exe installer when the .msi installer is run.

Is there a way to tell the group policy wizard to replace "<product name>" with a value I specify?

Thanks!

Bump. Is it possible to have the group-policy-generated MSI not show, "This installer database contains the logic and data required to install <product name>" in the tooltip text when you hover over it? It literally shows "<product name>." How can I replace this. It looks very unprofessional.

Just to follow up on this, we recently upgraded from IA 9.01 to IA 9.06. The string
This installer database contains the logic and data required to install <product>.
Has been replaced with
Powered by InstallAware.

BTW, you may change that string using Orca into anything you like.

I couldn't find the string in the MSI database using Orca. Then I noticed it's actually in the .msi file's summary info. I believe this is stored in either the .msi file's header or in an alternate data stream (I'm not sure which, but those are the two places you'll usually find summary info.)

I think the string can be changed easily, but I'm not sure Orca or the MSI API is the correct tool for it.
