Installer class not called when service installed.

Post by afriesen3 »

I am attempting to install a service. The service is .net with an installer class. When the service is installed (it is set to start automatically as well), the .net installer class is never called.

Shouldn't the "Install Service " action call the installer class?

If not, what must be done to get the installer class to run?

I can reproduce the problem with an installer that contains only the .net service executable with three service actions: Install Service, Start the service on install, and Stop and delete the service on uninstall.

Thanks,
Aaron

What you're looking for is to add it as an "Assembly" and mark "Run Installer Class" on it which in MSIcode translates to "Run .NET Installer Class".

Thanks. I think that will do it.

Too bad InstallAware online help does not include notes in the Services section to cover this, pointing the reader to the Assemblies section. I have been highly unimpressed with the online help so far. For the most part, it barely gets past the tautological form of "the Install Service command is used to install a service."

Thanks again,
Aaron
