Access Violation error when running installer

Post by epohl »

Hello,

We have a client who is running an installer built with InstallAware 6.24, build santacruz_sp4.020207.

We are seeing the following error:
Line 252 Access violation at address 0057E43C in module 'xxxxxxxx.exe'. Read of address 00000000
where xxxxxxx.exe is the name of the installer EXE. As far as I can tell, the error happens immediately after the user clicks on the Next button on the dialog showing the prerequisites to be installed. The prerequisite list is:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime 8.0 (includes ATL and MFC)
Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005

so it seems likely that the error is happening right before or during the Visual C++ runtime install. The machine in question is running Windows XP SP2, and we are installing as Administrator.

We have tried the following remedies:
1. Rebooting immediately prior to running the install
2. Running both the web-block and single-exe versions of the installer
3. Running a previous build of the installer

Nothing works. The error is very consistent on this particular machine. We have run this installer on dozens if not hundreds of other client machines and have never seen this problem before.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric

v6 has reached end-of-life, but please let me know if this issue occurs with v9 and we can look at it further. Be sure to not uninstall your existing v6 version by installing v9 to test - unless you have backups of your v6 trial file (full install) and license file.
