Unable to create patch database

Post by Ryan »

I am trying to build version 2.0.0.6 for my patch and have versions 2.0.0.4 and 2.0.0.5 in my patches.

At the very end of building the patch I am getting the following error.

Error during build: Unable to create patch database [Since MSI 3.0 will block installation of major upgrade patches with sequencing information, creation of such patches is blocked.]

What can I check/fix to get my patch built?

Thanks

I'm not sure why you'd get that error - InstallAware does not use MSI 3 but MSI 2 for building patches for maximum platform compatibility; moreover from your description it would seem that you are not building a major upgrade but a minor upgrade?

The patches are setup as follows:

2.0.0.4 - Full install version
2.0.0.5 - Patch version only

This did not work, I then tried this setup

2.0.0.4 - Full install version
2.0.0.5 - Full install version

I have not tried adding 2.0.0.4 and 2.0.0.5 as both patches because my first Install was at 2.0.0.4. And when I tried to only add 2.0.0.5 patch, InstallAware complained that it needed a base install.

Should I only include 2.0.0.5 Full install version ?

Did you read the patching whitepaper? It seems to me you might be trying to add wrong files as patch references, please check there:

My Installs are compressed to one file and it looks like I need to add the setup from the mia%%%.tmp folders. I am in the process of doing all of that now and will hopefully report my success.

Thanks

MichaelNesmith,

I thought that fixed my problem but I was wrong.

Here is what I have tried

1) I deleted all mia___.tmp folders.
2) Ran the setup for 2.0.0.4 and copied all the files created from the temp folder into patches\\2.0.0.4
3) Did the same thing for 2.0.0.5
4) Added the two patches from patches\\2.0.0.x
5) Built patch and received Error during build: Unable to create patch database [Since MSI 3.0 will block installation of major upgrade patches with sequencing information, creation of such patches is blocked.]

I have read the whitepaper a few times now and it seems I have done everything correctly. I even removed v2.0.0.4 and just tried with 2.0.0.5 and still no success.

*Update* I was able to get the build working by removing the previous versions, adding patch 2.0.0.6 and acting like I was making 2.0.0.7. This works but I am worried this will fail in future releases when our customers actually have the real version.
