Reboot and resume problem.

Post by ChrisN »

Hi.

I have a problem with the reboot and resume function. My setup first installs the Windows Installer 4.5 (Pre-Requisites) and then asks for a restart (and resume). The restart works fine, but the setup isn't resumed or not as expected.

I tried the following:
1. "Reboot Computer and Resume Setup": This is working but the Windows desktop isn't loaded after the restart There's no taskbar or any icons. Only the setup window. I think this depends on the RunOnce registry entry in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE tree.
2. Because there is no way to tell the function to use the HKEY_CURRENT_USER tree I've done the following:

Set Variable ApplySuccess to
Write Registry Key HKCU\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\RunOnce\\$TITLE$, $EXEFILE$ (permanent)
Apply Install (get result into variable ApplySuccess)
if Variable ApplySuccess Equals COMPLETE
Reboot Computer
end

This is working for the most cases, but not after Windows Installer installation (Apply Install returns an error).

3. So I tried the "Write Registry Persist" plugin, because it doesn't need an "Apply Install" call. This the best way to reboot and resume, but not for the restart after the installation of Windows Installer. Only if you put a message box between the "Write Registry Persist" and the "Reboot Computer" call.

4. Last thing I tried is a little C++ Programm, because there is the "Wait for program to finish" option in the run program command. This is working fine, but again not after the Windows Installer setup.

Now, I have no idea if there is anything else I can do or want is wrong with the described solutions.

Any ideas?

Best regards.

I got it.

With some modifications in my C++ program it seems to be ok now.

Best regards.
