Web Updates from an FTP Site

Post by wileywilly »

Hello,

I would like to use my FTP site for web updates.
I have not been successful in getting the web updates to work - I noticed that the updates fails because of the login details that one needs to enter to gain access to the FTP site.(This was not so with the HTTP site I successfully tested with earlier)

How do I handle a web update that requires logging into the FTP site before it can download the updates.ini file?
Is there a place we can give the login details?

Not for FTP, you need to use HTTP when supplying login details.

However we have a new Download File plug-in which should enable this to work with passwords both on FTP and HTTP. Please contact me privately if you would like to participate in testing it.

FTP Plugin Testing?

Post by pointeman »

I would like to use FTP with username & password as well. I'm currently using FTP anonymous on our web server, but I'm finding that many web hosting services do not offer the FTP/anonymous for security reasons. I like FTP better than http because of the terrible time I have with it crashing is past Installaware versions.

Q. Is the FTP plugin working or still in testing?

This should already be in InstallAware 9.
