Web-media-Block needed?

Post by Daniel26 »

Hello,

I'm evaluating the Installaware Studio Admin 9. I want to build a package with 2 USB-Driver for a Device manufactured by us.
So I start a now Project, configured two features (can I have 2 USB-Drivers in one Feature?), selected the Inf-Files under "Drivers" and tried to build that package.
But I always get the error "Error during build: At least one Web Media Block must be defined before installation commands that may require media".
Why that? I only build a Single-File-Package.
Can anybody help me?

Regards

Hi Daniel,

Check that you have none of the pre-requisites enabled, then check that your driver files are included in your project.

Finally, check that the Install Files MSI Code functions have a header titled [OFFLINE CONTENT].

Then you should be good to go :)

Hello Andy,

Where can I find the pre-requisites? Can't find anything about that.
The driver-Files (each Driver has its one feature with its own folder) are included.

Hmmm, Ok. Added an empty web-media-block in msi-code, seems to work.
I have a problem with installing drivers, but I think I will start another Thread about this.

Ok, new Project for testing, same error. It always wants a web-media-block. But I don't want any.
I defined again a empty web-media-block, but I still can't build the projekt.

Can anybody help me out here?

If i'm correct you are trying to build a Web Deployed setup.
Therefore you need at least one Web media Block.

Simply add one named [Off line content]
and put your files and logics below that.

Hope this helps.

No, no Web-Deployed-Setup. It's a normal "Basic Setup".
Thats why im wondering that a Web Media Block is needed.

ALL setup projects need at least an OFFLINE block defined - this is just how the compiler works.

But why does the Installaware Insatller Studio not define a Offline COntent when I build a normal Setup (not a websetup)? Why do I have to do this by hand?

I posted the msi-Code. Can you tell me whats wrong with it?

Hi Daniel,

InstallAware DOES normally create this construct.

E.g. (From a new project:)

[OFFLINE CONTENT]
[DEFINE WEB MEDIA New Project]
Get Component New Project Selection State into Variable SELECTED
if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
end
Comment: TO-DO: Insert any additional install commands here

See ? :)

If you are not seeing this, prehaps you can say which template you used so I can log a change request.

Hello Neillans,

if you look at my posted MSI-Code you can see that there is a [OFFLINE CONTENT]

If you mean that.....

Try removing the slashes from the media block names.

Ok, tried the project in anotrher way: Only 2 Features, no slashes in the FEature-Names, same result:

Code: Select all

 [OFFLINE CONTENT]
  [DEFINE WEB MEDIA driver lab_bpu_b]
Get Component driver lab_bpu_b Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\mi_cat\\marcomi.cat to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_mi
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\mi_cat\\marcomi.inf to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_mi
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\mi_cat\\marcomi.sys to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_mi
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\cdc_cat\\marcocdc.cat to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_cdc
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\cdc_cat\\marcocdc.inf to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_cdc
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\lab_bpu_2b-1_6\\cdc_cat\\marcocdc.sys to $PROGRAMFILES$\\driver lab_bpu_b\\marco_cdc
  end
  [DEFINE WEB MEDIA marcoload]
Get Component marcoload Selection State into Variable SELECTED
  if Variable SELECTED Equals TRUE
    Create Shortcut $SHORTCUTFOLDER$\\marcoload to $PROGRAMFILES$\\marco-load.exe
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\marco-load.exe to $PROGRAMFILES$
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\zcat.exe to $PROGRAMFILES$
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\tload.exe to $PROGRAMFILES$

    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\fep.exe to $PROGRAMFILES$
    Install Files C:\\Dokumente und Einstellungen\\Administrator\\Desktop\\marco.ico to $PROGRAMFILES$
  end
Comment: TO-DO: Insert any additional install commands here
[compiler if Variable BUILDMODE Equals PATCH]

        end
      end
    end
  end
  [compiler end]
  Set Variable PROGRESS to 100
end

<<Code>>
So, the slahes could not be the Problem.
