Hello,
I am creating an installation that requires the .Net 2 framework SP1 and I have noticed that InstallAware's application runtime 'Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 with Service Pack 1' automatically changes InstallAware's 'Minimum Operating System' Application Requirement back to Windows XP.
This behaviour is not consistant with the OS requirements that Microsoft has published for .net2 SP1. Microsoft themselves clearly state that the 'Windows Server 2000 SP4' is supported.
Is there something special about InstallAware's implemention of .net2 SP1 that requires XP as the minimum required OS or is this simply a programming oversight that will need to be addresssed by InstallAware?
Thanks,
Steve
Installing .Net 2 SP1

If you have a support request, and you need an answer quickly, it's worth submitting a support request too
The XP requirement is enabled as this is actually a check that is carried out by the .NET runtime installer; although it is possible to install .NET 2 on a Windows 2000 machine, there are a large number of pre-requisites that need to be managed. As such we look to enforce XP for this as this has a minimal set of additional pre-reqs. You can, however, modify the setup as required if you want to allow 2000 install.

Thanks for the response Andy,
I'm glad to hear that the support centre is going to be used again.
With regard to my original .Net2 framework install observation...
can you please expand on how to get .Net2 framework to install in Win2k? While I have attempted to do this I have been unsuccessful.
The .Net2 framework downloadable from Microsoft will install without difficulty, so this means that InstallAware has for some reason introduced this artificial XP restriction.
In your earlier comment you stated that:
That reason that I say this is because the Microsoft .Net install works properly and does not seem to require that any pre-requisites be installed on Win2000 beforehand.
Having said that, I am confused at how this would not be considered a bug when the Microsoft .Net 2 install works on 2000 and the InstallAware .Net install does not. The behaviour of the InstallAware .Net 2 framework runtime essentially means that InstallAware cannot not natively support developers using .Net 2 applications that need to run on Win2000 installs.
Thanks in advance for your help.

. This suggests to me that you are familiar with the details of what those pre-requisites are and the difficulties InstallAware development encountered in implementing them. Could you please define those pre-requisites, since there is no way for us users to determine what the InstallAware .Net2 install requires on Win2000....there are a large number of pre-requisites that need to be managed.

Hi Steve,
I'll see if I can log a request to get this revisited internally, but for now, lets see if we can get you moving
The two main requirements are:
- Windows Installer 2.0
- Internet Explorer 5 (we only ship 6)
Make sure that no other pre-reqs are selected, and delete the XP check.
And cross your fingers, hit compile and test!
