TargetDir may only be on Drive C:\\ Get Error on other drives

Post by wae »

I am new with InstallAware and working with the 30 days Test-Version of the Studio-Edition.

I had no problems building the desired setup.
Everything is fine.

When the setup runs I can select the TargetDir.
This is by default C:\\Programme\\My Program
The installation succeeds well as long as I choose any destination on drive C:
even new folders are build without problems.
BUT: When I choose an other drive than C:\\ in the TargetDir-Dialog
e.g D:\\My Program
the setup always fails with an error that the folder D:\\My Program can not be accessed or created
(sometimes says: no priviledges)
But this is not true. I am runnig setup under admin-account and manually creating of this folder ist no problem.
Using WinXP

Can anybody help?
Or is this a limitation on the test-version?
I can not buy InstallAware if this is a remainig bug.

I have just carried out a quick test and am unable to find any issues installing onto any driver other than C: ...

At what point do you receive the error? Can you attach a few screenshots to this thread so we can get more information?

Dear Andy,

thank you for your quick reply.

I have now found out the reason and solved the problem:
On drive W:\\ where I tried to install the program the user "SYSTEM" had no permission entry at all.
The user WAE under which I was runnig the setup is an admin and has full permissions on W:\\.
But this seems not to be enough.
After adding user "SYSTEM" with full permissions on W:\\ everything worked fine.
I think the win-installer-service itselve uses the user system to copy the files to the target-dir.

This seems to be neccessary in every setup.
So could the permission of the user system be checked during or after destination dialog?
maybe by a buildin IA-feature with an informative error-message.
