GPO problem

Post by kdeberni »

Hi,

We are using InstallAware Studio 8 and we are creating msi package of our application. However, we have a problem.
Our Group Policy is created on computer (not user). When computer is starting there is a message that application is installing however system (WindowsXP) is not waiting until application is complitly instaled but login window is showen to user and user login. So after user login he/she is searching for the application on desktop but can't find it because application is still not installed and that is a big problem.

So my question is what could couse the behavior that system do not wait until install finish and then let user login?

Thanks in advance

Yes, it is installing for all users and it is correct.
After installation everything is installed properly.
We have this installation for over 6 months but application is bigger and bigger and installation time is big enough t user notice that "something is wrong" (because the process of installation is running even after user logged on as I wrote).

What system are you using to configure the group policy?

I've had a look through the GP deploymnet for Windows XP, and I can't find any option to enforce an interactive install which is what you would need to do for deployment.

However, when you create the MSI wrapper for use with Group Policy, it might be worth changing the options that you pass to the installers boot stapper, and adding some custom logic to show a progress dialog.
