Find out previous installed version number during upgrade

How can we find out the version number of the previous installed version of our application.

i.e the version number entered under project properties in installaware.

You need to go dumpster (sorry - registry!) diving.

For example, a quick example project I threw together with product ID {85758FB3-2B04-4B93-BD9E-2C763DDCD707}

wrote information to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\{85758FB3-2B04-4B93-BD9E-2C763DDCD707}

One of the items is DisplayVersion.

There you go!

Ah, ok, i solved it in a similar way by writing a value with the version to the registry during install.
