Specific patching system for Install Aware?

Post by ScottBM »

Hi its me again long time no post. Installer has been running flawlessly with our system and works great, its been a real time saver and our players / developers love it.

I have 1 question though, we have been pumping out new patches and such constantly (of course because its beta), however some players as well as developers have been downloading the patches and installing them in wrong orders, missing some, etc. which is causing a lot of problems. (note: this is not by fault of installaware)

I want to either create or purchase an automated patching system that is compatible with installaware and basically checks for what version they are running and knows what files to download and install into what directory.

The automatic update works fine, but requires to many different versions to be uploaded and scanned for. And if the user cleans out their cache files or temporary files, it does not know what to look for. (most of them delete the installer right after completion.)

I am looking for more of a patching system thats automated and fully compatible with installaware. (Basically scans their version to make sure its current before launching the game / developer tools, then downloads appropriate install files.)

My question is there any automatic patching systems that are compatible with installaware patches?

Also any reccomendations would be great if you know off hand of any.

Thanks again for your excellent 2nd to none install system.

Hi Scott,

Many thanks for your kind words about InstallAware :) We certainly appreciate your positive attitude :D

I don't believe there's any automated patching system out there for InstallAware, but yours could be the first! With a couple of strategically placed and intelligently coded include scripts, you could develop a generic way to build the additional functionality you require on top of the existing default update script and main script codes.
