How to add files to the compiler's output directory on build

Post by KennethLee »

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if it's possible to include an extra file to the project output directory when you build as opposed to doing it manually. InstallAware clears the output directory when it builds so it always erases that file and I always have to put it back.

Is there a way for InstallAware to automatically leave that file there, or put that file there?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a generic installer that reads configurations off the file. I don't like using compiler variables because I have to rebuild the entire installer which could grow quite large.

Can anyone help? Perhaps theres a better way of doing this? I'm using InstallAware 9.

Much appreciated,
Kenneth

Can't be done I'm afraid - at least, not out of the box.

You will need a batch file, calling miabuild.exe (to build your project) and then copy the file ...

Or take a look at FinalBuilder.

I think I'll take the command line batch file approach. I've already tried it out and it seems to work well, except for the awkwardness not using the GUI to build the install.

Thanks.
