IIS 6 Site Configurations

Post by KennethLee »

Hi,

I'm evaluating InstallAware 9 and I'm trying to install multiple web applications and virtual folders on the default web site on IIS 6. The install platform is Windows Server 2003.

Everything in InstallAware 9 has been awesome except this one aspect. Please help.

The problem I'm getting is the following:

1. Application are not being created. I have to manually click on "Create" in the properties dialog of the IIS folder after the install. I've set the application protection (I've tried each one) and application pool fields (They have their own unique name) in InstallAware but no go.

2. MIME-Types are not being registered to the virtual folders or web applications.

3. The default document is not changing. Despite changing the default content page list in the Create IIS Virtual Folder, it doesn't seem to have any effect after an installation. The regular Default.aspx and so are are still the default document.

4. Execute permissions are not changing. I've changed the virtual folder execution permissions to None, and the web applications to Scripts and Executables. After the install, they are all set to Scripts.

5. The ASP.NET version isn't being set for the web applications and folders.

6. Anonymous access is always being set. I disabled anonymous access in the Create IIS Virtual Folder, however it does still create an anonymous accessable web application.

It seems to me the only thing that works is creating the virtual folders.

My install has about 3 web applications and 2 virtual folders. None of them are being setup properly.

I think I'm doing something wrong but after reading the numerous forum posts on application pools, I've found no answer.

At this point it looks like I'll have to write some app that configures IIS without InstallAware -- that is, unless the InstallAware people here can help.

Thanks,
Kenneth

I realized it was because I installed the applications into WWWROOT and the Create Virtual Folder doesn't work on folders that already exist in WWWROOT.

I think what I'm looking for is the ability to change the properties of an existing folder in WWWROOT.

As a solution, I've placed the web folders into the program files application directory and created virtual folders/web applications that target those directories. Seems weird to have web pages in the program's directory, but what can you do?

Is it possible to create a feature request to Change Existing Web Folders, which allows setting IIS Application, security, change application pools, mime types, default docs, etc.?
