Noticing slowdown during building on domain network

Post by mwhouser »

We've been noticing a slowdown during install building in both IA8 and IA9.

We have file assets sitting on a network server. If I build our install on our build computer, it normally takes 10 minutes to build our install. This is pulling files over our local network.

If I build our install on my computer using my own domain account, then building is desparately slow. To the point that building the same build is a whole day event. The majority of the slowness appears to be in copying files.

I noticed that if I logout, and log into my computer using the same account we usually build on the build computer with then building takes 10 minutes.

I then tried logging into my computer as me, but running IA9 as this other user. Again, this is taking 10 minutes.

So, it appears that copying files over the network using a different account than the primary owner of the files is just naturally slow. However, I then did a normal copy of the files using my own account, and they copied very fast. I used Total Commander for this.

So I am wondering what could IA be doing during the copy stage that would cause this slowdown when mixing domain accounts? Are you just copying files, or are you processing them somehow that is triggering a domain user verification for each file?

Any ideas?

Thanks,
...Matt

Hi Matt,

During the build process we actually use a methodology called "junction points" - you maybe seeing a side effect of domain processing through this. Unfortunatly at present there is no option to disable this and revert to standard files copies. I would suggest changing your build process to include syncronising your files to local disk.
