How do you automatically run app update at end of install?

Post by Phil Lee »

I have my app setup for manual update checking. This works correctly. What I would like to do is to get the installer to automatically check for an update when it has completed the installation. So far I've tried pointing the RUNAPP tick box on the finish dialog to the app update shortcut and explicity to the app update. Neither method worked so I wondered if anyone had any pointers.

I've found the answer myself, by following the instructions in the document "Using InstallAware 7 To Publish Web Updates". Page 15 describes how to do exactly what I wanted. The program to run is $EXEFILE$ with the command line parameters /updatesetup /s.

but don't forget to call

Code: Select all

Run Program $EXEFILE$ /updatesetup /s (WAIT, get result into variable UpdateSetupReturns)
afaik this is needed to initialize the updater.
